Bringing state-of-the-art LED Lighting to Hobbyists

saikoLED Products

Saiko Lantern

The Saiko Glowing Lantern. These include a hand-painted chinese hanging lantern made using fluorescent paint, along with a black-light light bulb and hanging cord. The overall effect is that the skin of the lantern appears to glow while the lightbulb inside is invisible.

Saiko Moonlight

This is a moon light suitable for many applications which includes an anodized aluminum case, current control resistor, and ultra high brightness LED from either Philips Lumiled or LEDEngin 5W LED. Applying 5VDC to the wires will cause the LED to turn on, making it extremely well suited for applications where the user can take advantage of a dimming control on a 5V power supply to control brightness.

The case is designed for three mounting options, either via three #8 eye hooks screwed into the back and hung via filament wire with wire runing along the filaments, #8 screws directly into a surface (for instance, an aquarium canopy), or a 1/8" NPT pipe fitting, such as the 41405 adapters to the 1/4" LOC-LINE System.

Ordering options include your choice of Luxeon Rebel or LEDEngin 20mm star board. Feel free to procure it on your own, but you'll find my markup is minimal. You can also order the case and fasteners without a star board to facilitate making your own. For additional flavor, I included three LedEngin LEDs which do not have corresponding colors from Lumiled -- Near Red, Far Red, and "UV" (actually 405-410nm for safety reasons). The "UV" is a lot more pricey than the others, thus the higher price here.

The Saiko5 Fixture

The Saiko5 WiFi LED Light Fixture is our flagship LED Light Fixture. Based on the Arduino platform, the Saiko5 Fixture incorporates a Light Shield, Light Brick, Arduino UNO, and a 24V power supply into an attractive custom machined anodized aluminum case. The resulting Saiko5 Fixture allows for easy wireless control over the color and brightness of the LED light being put out. The Saiko5 Fixture has an exposed USB port for easy modification of the firmware on the included Arduino UNO, as well as an external antenna for use with the Light Shield to provide an FCC approved WiFi radio. Please see the Saiko5 Documentation for a more detailed description. Note: The Saiko5 Fixture is covered by a limited 1-year warranty covering normal wear and tear on the device, barring any acts of physical damage. It may also be returned for a full refund within 14 days of delivery so long as it is returned in saleable condition. Customer is responsible for return shipping arrangements.

The Saiko5 Fixture comes fully assembled. For hobbyist focused individual parts that will require effort to assembly, consider purchasing the Light Brick 5 or Light Shield 7 alone. There is currently no lead time on Saiko5 fixtures.

The Light Brick 5

The Light Brick 5 is an integrated LED board with heat sinking case and gooseneck, capable of outputting 800+ lumens (1000+ effective) of light using a simple five wire interface that can be integrated with any controller. Please see the Light Brick 5 Documentation for a more detailed description. The Light Brick 5 can be provided either with or without a case, or as a bare board. Note: The Light Shield 7 is not covered by a warranty, but can be returned for a full refund within 14 days of delivery so long as it is returned in saleable condition. Customer is responsible for return shipping arrangements.

The Light Brick 5 comes as a bare board (unpopulated), populated without a case, or populated with the parts to assemble a case using our guide. The current lead time on cases is 3-4 weeks, and on assembled boards is 1-2 weeks.

The Light Shield 7

The Light Shield 7 is an integrated switching power supply that allows powering of an Arduino of Maple system from a voltage input of 10-36VDC. It also includes the Microchip MRF24WB0MB WiFi module with an external antenna designed for easy connectivity to a computer. Finally, the Light Shield 7 includes header to allow simple connection of the Arduino or Maple PWM outputs to the control wires of the Light Brick 5. However, these outputs can also be used for other applications such as motor control. Please see the Light Shield 7 Documentation for a more detailed description. Note: The Light Shield 7 is not covered by a warranty, but can be returned for a full refund within 14 days of delivery so long as it is returned in saleable condition. Customer is responsible for return shipping arrangements.

The Light Shield 7 comes as a bare board (unpopulated), populated without a case, or populated with the parts to assemble a case using our guide. The current lead time on cases is 3-4 weeks, and on assembled boards is 1-2 weeks.

Note: We are currently only able to ship to addresses in the US as we have not investigated whether our wireless equipment adheres to the FCC-equivalent standards in other countries.

Note: Due to the high cost of inventory, we have a limited supply of any product at any given time, especially full Saiko5 fixtures for which we generally have only between 10 and 60 in stock at any given time. For small orders without cases, we can generally turn around a finished device in a few days, but if we need to machine a case, print boards, or wait on shipping of discrete components our turn around time increases to up to 3-4 weeks. If any item on your order is backordered at the time your order is placed, you will be notified via email along with our best guess as to the lead time and given the option of canceling your order. Your credit card will not be charged until the order has shipped.
